MORE NOTES FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Another installment of some of the inside (and outside) baseball developments happening in several high-profile campaigns in Arkansas.

GOP Senate candidate John Boozman has formed an "agriculture coalition" to support his candidacy.  As you know, Sen. Lincoln is the chairman of the Senate Agriculture committee.  Boozman has been promised a seat on the panel if he's elected, but Lincoln's position is much stronger for the state's agri interests.

Stanley Reed, Boozman’s Campaign Co-Chairman and former Arkansas Farm Bureau President, said Bill Haak, a dairy farmer in Gentry, and Elmer Lindsey, a cotton farmer/ginner in Caldwell, are co-chairs of the group. Here's a link to the 60 members the coalition claims.

Former Democratic Senate candidate Lt. Gov. Bill Halter tells a NetRoots group of political activists that he regrets not getting in the Senate race sooner.

“If I was going to do it all over again, we would probably want to start earlier than seventy-seven days before the election,” Halter told the Las Vegas audience.

Second District GOP Congressional nominee Tim Griffin has come under fire from the Democratic Party of Arkansas, which is circulating a list of "Crooked Candidates" from D.C.-based CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics. This is the same group that last year attacked Democratic Rep. Mike Ross' ethics on the sale of his pharmacy in Prescott when he was standing up to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the health care reform debate.  CREW regurgitates negative headlines Griffin garnered during his tumultuous short term as a U.S. Attorney and his involvement in alleged voter disenfranchisement efforts for the national Republican Party.

Griffin, a U.S. Army Reservist running against Democrat State Sen. Joyce Elliott, released his officer evaluation reports this week from his 14 years of military service. The report, which you can read here, has many references to Griffin's "honor," "candor" and "integrity."  Says one Republican observer: "I'll take a peer review from the U.S. Army over CREW any day of the week."

The Green Party of Arkansas holds its convention this weekend.  Don't expect the Greens to co-opt any candidates who failed in their election bids this year, nor will they try to ride the coattails of nominated candidates.

Arkansas state law has a "sore loser" rule that prohibits candidates from giving it a second try in the same election year. State statutes also prevent "fusion candidates," which are candidates nominated by multiple political parties.

Finally, here are videos from the Arkansas Governor campaign trail.  Gov. Mike Beebe's campaign posts his stump speech from July 4th activities in northeast Arkansas.  Jim Keet has edited a video of his recent headlines to a Brooks and Dunn song.  Keet brags that he's got more Facebook friends than Beebe; we'd point out that Beebe has more campaign cash than Keet.
