Graphic Packaging International said it will close its Jacksonville multiwall bag facility and locate the business to its other U.S. operations.

The move could cost the city about 150 salaried and hourly jobs, a spokesman for GPI tells Talk Business.

The company has other locations in Eastman, Georgia, New Philadelphia, Ohio, Kansas City, Missouri, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Louisville, Kentucky.  The business is expected to be spread to all of those locations.

"As always, GPI deploys business to our most cost effective plants," said David Scheible, GPI CEO. "We continually evaluate all of our business operations to ensure we are serving our markets as efficiently as possible. Simply put, this is a difficult business decision."

The Jacksonville multiwall bag facility will continue to operate and support customers during a transition period characterized as "over several months."

Graphic Packaging International, Inc. is a subsidiary of Graphic Packaging Holding Co. and is headquartered in Marietta, Georgia. It is a provider of paperboard packaging solutions for a wide variety of products to food, beverage and other consumer products companies.
