Companies Agree To Shut Down Gas Wells

Speculation that natural gas drilling in the Fayetteville Shale play could be responsible for a swarm of recent earthquake activity and problematic water quality led to an Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission hearing today on two wells.

Right before the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission was scheduled to meet to consider an emergency application to require Chesapeake Operating Inc. and Clarita Operating to cease all injection operations at two wells near Guy, both companies agreed to shut down operations of their respective wells.

By the time the meeting had adjourned, commission members unanimously approved the application to cease injections at the two well sites.
