Lone holdout Sen. Blanche Lincoln says she will vote on the procedural motion to begin a debate on health care reform in the U.S. Senate, but how she votes beyond that is undetermined. "I will vote in support of cloture on the motion to proceed to a bill," Lincoln said on the floor of the Senate this afternoon. Lincoln was the last Democratic Senator to convey her support for a motion to allow debate to begin. In her remarks, she focused criticism on the much-hyped public option and said that she would be unsupportive of health care reform efforts if the controversial provision remains in the legislation. "But let me be perfectly clear. I am opposed to a new government-administered health care plan as a part of comprehensive health insurance reform, and I will not vote in favor of the proposal that has been introduced by Leader Reid," Lincoln said. "I have already alerted the Leader, and I am promising my colleagues that I am prepared to vote against moving to the next stage of consideration as long as a government-run public option is included," she added. You can read Lincoln's full prepared remarks at this link. Interestingly, as pivotal as Lincoln's vote will be to start the debate, she could also be as instrumental in ending it. The Senate will require 60 votes to close debate and bring the health care legislation to a vote. UPDATE: The Senate just cast ballots on the cloture motion, which passed with 60 votes. All Democrats and Independents voted for the motion, while all Republicans voted against. Both senators from Arkansas, Democrats Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, voted for the motion, which will allow debate to proceed on the Senate's version of the health care reform bill.
